2 of the 17 kidnapped north American hostages released

Two of the 17 hostages (from the American missionaries, their relatives and 1 Canadian : 12 adults between 18 and 48 years old (5 men and 7 women) and 4 children aged 3, 6, 14 and 15 as well as an 8 month old baby) kidnapped by the Gang “400 mawozo” were released. 

These missionaries were on their way to the Toussaint Louverture airport when the bus transporting them was stopped and attacked by individuals heavily armed on Saturday, October 16, 2021, on the Ganthier road.

17 millions dollars were claimed by the gang “400 mawozo” for their release, threatening to execute the hostages if the ransom was not paid. 

“Only limited information can be provided, but we are able to indicate that the two hostages who have been released are safe and sound, in good spirits and in care,” said church organization Christian Aid Ministries in a press release published on its website on Sunday 21st of November. 

Inspector General Frederic Leconte, Director of the Central Directorate of Judicial Police (DCPJ) confirmed this information without further details on the circumstances of these two releases.
