The White House denies plans to send illegal haitian migrants to Guantanamo

After news channels reported on Wednesday September 22nd that the Department of Homeland Security had  issued a new contract to operate a migrant center at Guantanamo for Haitian migrants gathering at the US border with Mexico.

In a formal note, The White House denied that false information,

A day later, Jen Psaki, the White House press secretary said “The Biden administration never had a plan to do that […] I think there was some confusion related to the Migrant Operations Center, which has been used for decades to process migrants interdicted at sea for third-country resettlement.”

This is reassuring news, as storing Haitians in Guantanamo would be a serious step back into a time in history, where countless Haitians took to try to go to Haiti by the sea and were detained in Cuba.  This was equally as a badly handled situation as what we are seeing in Texas today.
