First official case of African Swine Plague confirmed in Haiti

The first official case of the African Swine Plague virus (ASF) has been confirmed in Haiti, more precisely in the border town of Anse-a-Pitres by the specialized American laboratory “Plum Island Animal Disease Center”.

The Ministry of Agriculture says it is taking all measures to contain the risk of an epidemic of this deadly blood disease for pigs.  It is very contagious, and there is no cure or vaccine.

He also noted that the Swine Plague is harmless to humans.

The Ministry calls on breeders to respect the vigilance and prevention instructions recommended by the health protection services.
