Earthquake Updates September 6th, 2021

Many victims of earthquake in the South are being overlooked by the state 

In addition to the two communal sections far from Torbeck, Solon and Moreau, respectively 3rd and 4th municipal section of Torbeck, are the most affected in this town in the southern department alongside on the other side of the southern ravine, in the commune of Camp-Perrin, Labiche (Lévy) and Tibi – the third communal section – are among the forgotten. 

Yet located on the other side of the southern ravine, these victims of the magnitude 7.2 earthquake of August 14 are among the forgotten. Hoping to receive state support, their main concern remains the reconstruction of their homes destroyed by the earthquake.  

Unlike the first and second municipal section of Torbeck, the other two are difficult to access. 

The shortest path requires crossing the southern ravine, in flood since the earthquake, not far from Lévy, the first communal section of Camp-Perrin. Victims of the earthquake of Saturday August 14, many of them, in these heavily affected neighborhoods, have to maintain themselves or with the support of relatives abroad, their affected families.

Silenced by the earthquake, Radio Télédiffusion Cayenne calls for help                                                         

Radio Télédiffusion Cayenne (RTC) has stopped broadcasting since the earthquake of August 14, the CEO of this media, Pierre Yvon Chéry, told Le Nouvelliste, Friday September 3, 2021. “Our STL, our receiver, our transmitter installed in the Brilleux heights are damaged, he explained, standing in the on-air setting where electronic equipment is piled up. 

“The premises housing the RTC suffered significant damage. Part of the house must be rebuilt, according to the engineer who carried out the assessment, “We need support. ”continued Pierre Yvon Chéry, 

After the Lumière radio station, the RTC is the oldest medium broadcasting from Les Cayes to all the municipalities of the South department, to Aquin.
