New Updates on the earthquake in South of Haiti

The bar of 2,207 dead and 12,000 injured

The latest report dated Saturday August 21, 2021, which covers the period from Thursday August 19 at 4 p.m. to Saturday August 21 at 3 p.m., 

Reports 2,207 deaths, 12,268 injured, 344 missing persons, 52,953 houses destroyed and 77,006 houses damaged following the magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Haiti around 8:29 a.m. on Saturday August 14, 2021.  

 

378 aftershocks in 10 days

Since the major 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit southwestern Haiti, 378 aftershocks have been recorded, the National Seismology Center of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo reported on Monday (August 23).

The Center said that after the earthquake recorded on Saturday August 14, one of the first aftershocks had a magnitude of 6.0 degrees, while among the following ones, magnitudes of 5.8, 5.5 and 5.3 had been noted among others.

 

40 French rescuers as reinforcements:

As part of the European civil protection mechanism, 40 French rescuers from the regiment of Nogent LeRotrou and Brignolles have arrived. In their “luggage” a water treatment unit for Les Cayes which will provide up to 220m3 of drinking water per day

The French Embassy in Haiti delivered, on Saturday August 21, 2021, aboard the frigate Germinal, 47 tonnes of emergency aid to Haiti, following the earthquake of August 14. The affected populations will benefit from shelter, food and water. 30 trunks containing 1.7 tons of essential drugs and medical inputs will arrive in the coming days, according to the embassy. France is also planning a budget of 500,000 euros for emergency aid operations, which will be carried out in close coordination with the Haitian Civil Protection.
