Importation of pigs and their products prohibited

As a preventive measure to avoid the African swine fever from entering to Haiti, the Prime Minister announced, in a press release dated August 11, 2021, that the import of pigs, pork meat and their products by land, sea ​​and air from the Dominican Republic is prohibited in the national territory until further notice. 

Especially addressing importers, breeders and users of the Haitian-Dominican border, we can read as followed this excerpt from the press release from the Prime Minister “This is a preventive measure following the confirmation by the Dominican authorities to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) of the resurgence in the Dominican Republic of African swine fever, a highly contagious disease”.

From a previous press conference on Thursday August 5, 2021,  it was confirmed by the Agriculture Minister Charlot Bredy that there are no cases of swine fever diagnosed in the country and authorities are working hard to prevent this from happening. “The mobilization is total,” he says.
